Our story and mission.
"Let me tell you about my amazing husband, Michael Cody. He was raised in Nebraska and he has two passions in life; Nebraska football and helping people through chiropractic care. As a Board-certified pediatric chiropractor, Michael has dedicated himself to helping and healing people for the past 20 years at our practice in Fox River Grove, IL. He has helped so many people, young and old restore their health and he has truly touched so many peoples' lives.
Mike and I met in February of 2006 and we quickly fell in love. Mike had a son John, and I had a son JR. We were married and began our amazing blended family. Soon after we were blessed with another son, Jake, a grandson Jesse, and our little princess, Bella.
This past Labor Day weekend we planned a wonderful family weekend in Chicago. These little get-aways don't happen often, as both Mike and myself work together at the office. During our mini vacation it became evident that Mikes' health was declining . He was extremely weak and his color had completely changed. The following Tuesday he had a blood draw to try and pinpoint what was going on. The testing lab phoned us and requested we go in to the office for the results. We knew that this was much more serious than we ever thought. He was diagnosed with acute leukemia, and hemolytic anemia and that condition was what was threatening his life. He spent nearly two weeks in a hospital locally, with little change. One of his patients works for the University of Chicago Hospital and was able to get him transferred to further examine and try to understand the extent of his illness.
He made changes to his diet and health routine, but these changes have proven not to be enough. He has no other option than to receive a bone marrow transplant. His sister agreed to be tested for compatibility. She has tested to be a 60% match and may be the best hope for his survival. We hope the transplant will be scheduled quickly. Our time is running out.
Our insurance coverage will reach it’s maximum soon due to costs of the hospitalizations, treatments, and the bone marrow transplant. We want to continue his care long after this transplant is successful.
We also want to take the approach of pay it forward. We were lucky enough to find a partial match for Mike, but others struggling with leukemia are not always so lucky. We are teaming up with the organization "Be the Match" to spread awareness of the need for donors. Please spread the word and donate so that other families have a fighting chance like we do."
-As a newby to the Cody family I have seen the love that this family has for their patients, friends and community and it is overwhelming! It has been incredibly tasking on Mike and his family these first few months of diagonisis and their family and friends want to rally for them, during his fight against Cancer. We are looking to raise funds for Mike's medical expenses and his family to help ease the stress of money to let them focus on fighting. Thank you and let's help Mike fight this!
