Drax’s vet costs for bilateral ACL surgery

This fundraiser is for Drax. Here is his story

We talked for at least 3-4 years as a family about getting a dog. We had two cats at the time, but a dog would be different. My partner, Rob and I would tag each other in rescue adoption posts on Facebook kind of joking but kind of not.
The thing is, I was completely terrified of dogs growing up. We had a dog named Sparky when I was young, but that didn’t help my fear of dogs.

Paws for Love posted a group of husky-cross rescues from a remote reserve that were abandoned by their mom. They were adorable, and Rob and I both fell in love with the chubby fluffy runt with the “fleur de lis” on his forehead.
We get approved and go meet him. He was bullied by the others at the foster and I remember holding him in a blanket while Rob drove home and he was trembling.
Drax the destroyer (we love Marvel) we chose for a name.
He didn’t live up to it. He didn’t destroy anything he wasn’t supposed to. He had never gotten into garbage, toys, socks, slippers, or even the steak I left on the table, didn’t pee or poop in the house or even leave the yard when the gate was forgotten open. He was not the “typical Husky “
Me , who was terrified of dogs had a new best friend.
Drax joined our family in Nov 2019 . He came at a time I needed Him. We grew a connection that no one could break - not my kids, rob , or anyone. I was his person and he became mine ( in dog form). This 8 week old pup depended on me so much.
I finally understood how pets became family. He is truly the perfect match for our family
Now the hard stuff. Early September 2023 I come home- it’s the first day we are all gone from home in months and he seems fine. Eats his supper and goes outside and I go to take him for a car ride ( we went everywhere together ) but this time he seemed to forget how to get in my car. He reminded me of my mom ( who I recently lost ). He couldn’t figure out how to use his legs to get in.
Eventually he gets in. We get home and he gets out and roams the backyard as always. Time to come in for bed and he is lame. He can’t use his back legs. He can’t get up the one step - I eventually leash him to get him in and rob drives home from work after a night of him dragging his backside and no improvement. No whimpering , yelping or any other behaviours beside not being able to use his back legs. My best friend was hurting and I was heartbroken. I couldn’t lose him not even 5 months after I lost my mom. - So we take him to urgent vet and it’s meds and physical. Is it neurological, ortho, odd . ($400) They seemed to help a little but not cure. We get a follow up 4 weeks later because he’s not improving and pain meds for the month in between. He’s struggling to walk in and outside and lies around and needs ti be leashed to get in and out. Oct 30th- Follow up assessment sees no improvement so we book him for X-rays 3 days later. It’s not his hips , Lyme disease or a neurological issue
He has two torn ACLs and a fracture foot.
My poor baby who hasn’t whimpered or cried is struggling to walk
He has two torn ACLs. We are given 3 options. Let him heal on his own. Potentially 50% recovery after 6- 7 months, option two -get him surgery which will cost $5800 a leg and have a 95% recovery rate to where he was and before the vet could say option 3 I said we will do surgery. ( we all know what option 3was)
He just turned 4 years old in September, was in good health and all other tests came back fine , he deserves the surgery to have a 95% chance at living a healthy active 8-10 more years.
He’s my baby. He’s my Therapy Dog , He’s saved me more than he knows and I owe him this.
This little runt abandoned by his mom needed me as much as I needed him.
I know this is long but any help to his vet bill is appreciated. I have always and will always go above and beyond to help anyone out. Either way he is getting this surgery but any help is truly appreciated (as it is a massive financial burden right before the holidays )and I will always continue to pay it forward in life. I rescued him but he truly rescued me - any money raised and not needed will be given back to vet bills for rescues
