Drama School Aid

Ey up!

First of all, thank you so much for clicking on my go fund me page and showing an interest in my story!

So about my campaign...

Very recently, I have been offered a place at a prestigious drama school in London to train as an actor, where the likes of Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender and Emilia Clarke have trained (to name but a few). It's a little bit mad that a lad like me from Sheffield has gained a place at a school like this. Here is a link to the course if you wish to read more about what I'll be studying and how much of an incredible opportunity it is: http://www.arts.ac.uk/csm/courses/postgraduate/ma-acting-drama-centre-london/

However, the cost of the course is £19,000. And that doesn't include the cost of living in London, which as we all know can be quite expensive. And while I am allowed to borrow £10,000 from student finance, there is still a hefty amount of money that I need to find.

I ought to tell you a little bit about myself and the reason for setting up this campaign. So, my name is Joe Facer and I'm a born and bred Sheffield lad. I come from a working class family that has a long history of miners and steel workers (my great-grandfather worked in the crucible furnaces), something of which I am very proud of.  I'm not sure why it happened, but one day I woke up and decided to be the first member of my family who has ever been interested in acting and having a career in the arts.

Over the years, I have been involved in numerous projects in both theatre and film as well having graduated from university (one of the first of my family to do so), where I studied English and Drama. I am also part of the renown National Youth Theatre which was an incredible three weeks that allowed me to develop as an artist. I don't want to ramble on about the things I have done, so if you wish to know more please feel free to drop me an email and I can send links to showreels and projects etc to give you a greater idea of my acting career so far! In the meantime, here is a link to an incredible production I was a part of about elderly people's stories about Sheffield: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wR0wH2B5XRY

Now while I understand that there are more worthy causes out there for you to give your money and attention to, I think it is important for me to explain what any donation will be going towards in the long run:

1) I promise, that once I have graduated from drama school, that I will offer free workshops in schools and sixth forms (that are similar to the ones which I attended) in Sheffield in the hopes of inspiring more children from  working class Yorkshire backgrounds (like myself) to have a career in the arts. It is so important for the Yorkshire voice to be heard and the moment it is not being heard at all. Therefore, by hopefully inspiring future generations to become involved with acting and art, we can make this voice louder.

2) I also pledge, and this is something that I am really passionate about, that when I have established myself as an actor, I will do my all in helping other aspiring Yorkshire actors to fund their own place at drama school as well as offering advice and support throughout their careers. I understand only too well how difficult it is to find the funds to do achieve your dreams  and this is something that I feel needs to be addressed.

Following on from this, I would like to let you know that at the start of July (date and venue yet to be confirmed but I will update this page as soon as they are) I will be performing a one man play in order to raise funds. The play will be about Sheffield and the way in which my great city shapes and impacts upon people's lives.  From looking at the park hill flats and the buzz they created to the peak district and how it is such an important part of our Sheffield identity. But rather than solely to raise funds, I wish to do the piece to give something back to Sheffield.

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to read my story and  why I have set up this campaign, and I am incredibly sorry if you are bored to death by it. Even if you can't donate or share, I really appreciate you reading my story and hopefully you can support and push future generations of working class artists from Yorkshire into the arts.  If you wish to know more, then please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Joe
