Hey friends and family!
Attending Louisiana State University has always been a dream of mine and my experiences in Baton Rouge have far exceeded my expectations thus far. I have learned invaluable things about myself, made lifelong friends and memories, and most importantly taken advantage of opportunities that I have no doubt will play a huge role in the individual I am becoming. But I'm not done yet! The most recent door that LSU has opened for me is the chance to study abroad in Greece.
This particular trip, called "Honors in the Aegean," will allow me to travel to Athens, Corinth, Delos, Delphi, Epidaurus, Meteora, Mt Pelion, Naxos, Olympia, Syros, Thessaloniki, and Vergina from May 24-June 16 to learn all about ancient Greek history, literature, philosophy, and religion while being immersed in their unique culture and landscape. Pretty great, right? Unfortunately, awe-inspiring, life-altering, once-in-a-lifetime trips across the globe do not come cheap. The cost for me to study abroad this summer includes the $4772 program fee, $2241 tuition, estimated $1600 flight, and additional money for food and spending. Despite my tremendous effort to apply for scholarships and earn the money working 2 jobs, I find myself in need of your help!
I am seeking $6000 in donations and any amount you can contribute to that sum would be tremendously appreciated. The concept of asking others for money without "earning" it is a bit foreign to me, but I am so appreciative of the community that has surrounded me and supported me throughout my life and I have faith that, with your generosity, we can make this happen. Of course I am not only seeking monetary donations; a Facebook share, a word of advice or even a prayer for safe travels are all incredibly generous and can make a huge difference.
I know what you are thinking, "Geez Drake this sounds like a great time. I wish I could come with you." Well, you can! I plan to share my entire experience abroad, as it is happening through a blog. If you would like to receive the information, please include your email address in your donation (or get it to me in some other way) and you'll be able to see the entire documentation of my trip as it's happening. I feel it is only appropriate for you to share in an experience you made possible!
And finally, THANK YOU! If you have clicked on this link, and made it this far, you have already supported me in some way. I credit the person I am today to those who have helped me along the way. I hope you will do so now that I'm challenging myself to step outside of my comfort zone, leave the country for the first time, and have a big fat Greek summer!
God Bless!
