My name is Mackenzie and I am a close friend of the owners of Dragon Wok Delivery. As you may or may not know by now, Dragon Wok Delivery is located at 38th and Chicago, directly across from Cup Foods where George Floyd’s life was tragically cut short on May 25th, 2020. As a result of this unjust act by these 4 Minneapolis Police Officers, peaceful protestors have gathered for several days at the spot where the incident occurred. Dragon Wok Delivery had to make the decision to temporarily suspend business operations in the early hours of May 26th, 2020; not only out of an abundance of caution for it’s employee’s and community member’s safety but also as a way to stand in solidarity with their mourning community. In the days since Dragon Wok temporarily suspended business operations, they have been out in the community, specifically at the memorial of George Floyd, supplying protestors with water bottles and pans of fried rice to ensure all are well fed and hydrated.
Not only has Dragon Wok been active and giving back in their community during all of this, but they are also the business that willingly supplied their private security footage that proved George Floyd was not resisting arrest. This was an act of courage and bravery and I couldn’t be more proud of this business for bringing the truth to light.
As for Dragon Wok’s Staff, the harsh reality is that they are all out of a job until it is safe for them to return to work at Dragon Wok. This Go Fund Me is being started in hopes of providing Dragon Wok with financial relief to be able to take care of their business and employees during this time of temporary closure. Anything helps and is so, so appreciated. Let’s make sure this Black Owned Business can get back on it’s feet when operations resume! #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd
