Dr. Owen Mapingire Funeral & Repatriation Fund

Donation protected
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we would like to share the passing of our beloved Dr. Owen Mapingire. As many of you know, Dr. Owen Mapingire was the most incredible professor, son, uncle, brother, nephew and especially friend.  This loss was sudden, tragic, and incredibly devastating to all who knew him. We will miss his laughter, charisma, and presence in our lives.

Dr. Owen Mapingire touched many lives, which has never been more apparent than now. He put so much of himself and his love into each and every relationship in his amazing life. Now it is our turn to give back to his family and show just how much he meant to all of us.

The outpouring of love and support has been overwhelming and such a comfort at this difficult time. Many people have reached out asking how they can help beyond all of their thoughts and prayers. We have set up this page as a way for all of us to do something that will help cover his funeral expenses and repatriate Dr. Owen Mapingire to his native home country of Zimbabwe.

Update with location change: The memorial service is scheduled for Saturday July 27th at 1:00 PM, with a celebration of his life immediately following the memorial service, at the same location, till 5PM.

A bit about the organizer and use of funds:
My name is Ralph and I am from Zimbabwe, but I live in Houston. I was very good friends with Dr. Mapingire here in Houston.
The funds raised will be used for the repatriation of the body back to Zimbabwe at a cost of ~$11,000. We also will use $2,000 for his memorial service here in Houston. The remaining $1,500 we will send to his mother to cover the costs of the burial in Zimbabwe.
