On Thursday, April 13, we lost a wonderful family man, a brilliant surgeon, and a true all-American—Dr. Matthew Jansen. To everyone who had the privilege of knowing Matt, he was unfailingly kind, intelligent, and generous. In 2015 he graduated from general surgery residency at St. Luke's University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Deciding that he could make the best use of his training by working as a general surgeon in a rural area where the needs were great, he joined the Sidney Regional Health Center in Sidney, Nebraska. His superb skills as a surgeon were admired by colleagues and appreciative patients alike; he would tackle any problem and always seemed to find a way to solve it. Matt had a confidence that was supremely reassuring, and a gentle compassion that calmed patients and their worried families.
Matt's greatest passion, however, was his own dear family. Matt adored his wife Kaitlin and their four beautiful daughters. The Jansen family loved the outdoors and built a peaceful way of life, surrounded by nature, that most can only dream about. Matt was very close to his parents and sister, and persuaded his parents to move to Sidney five years ago. He cherished his adoptive state—and had a way of bringing people together and convincing them to move from all over America to Nebraska. Matt was the sole provider for his family, and leaves behind his wife Kaitlin and their four children, Lilly, Eva, Eleanor, and Addy. Matt was known as a generous and passionate soul who gave all he had to help others in need. He will be greatly missed. Please consider contributing to the fund to help his family during this very difficult time.
