Dr. Lovie Gaines-Houston dedicated her life not to teaching but to mentoring students. For over 30 years she taught middle school and high students in Clayton and Fulton County and even trained future educators at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
She spent most of her time at Tri-Cities High School in Fulton County GA where she created the first ever mentorship club and a 9th Grade Academy to help incoming freshman prepare for HS.
She has now passed from this earth but her legacy must live on and her spirit shared. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to create a scholarship at Tri-Cities High School. The scholarship will assist graduating seniors who fall in one of the below categories:
Dr. Lovie Gaines-Houston Mentorship Scholarship
A Tri-Cities HS student who participated in the mentorship club for at least one year or has at least 50 volunteer hours in the cities of East Point, College Park, or Hapeville.
Dr. Lovie Gaines-Houston Not Forgotten Scholarship
Tri-Cities HS students who were enrolled in special education courses, or have an IEP, and want to go to college, vocational school, or obtain any post-graduate training.
Dr. Lovie Gaines-Houston Continued Success Scholarship
Any Tri-Cities HS student that was able to grow their G.P.A from below a 2.0 to a G.P.A between 2.5 and 3.0 who want to continue their education or vocational training.
