Dr. James (Jim) Sensenig devoted his life to the Naturopathic profession and now he has passed away. We are left in heartache and disbelief, as happens when a beloved visionary leader, healer and educator is gone too soon.
His energy and influence were boundless. He served his nation as an intelligence officer during the war in Vietnam. He served our profession as dean of a medical school, served on the faculty of two medical schools, and was a frequent lecturer at numerous medical conferences in the US and Canada. He was responsible for the licensure of Naturopathic Doctors in several states.
He was the founder of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, our national professional organization. He was the driving force behind the creation of CNME and NPLEX, and the Institute for Natural Medicine. His final institutional creation is the Naturopathic Medicine Institute, which he founded as a non-profit organization devoted to preserving the vitalistic wisdom and practice of naturopathic medicine.
He also maintained a full time practice in Hamden, CT, where he regularly hosted and trained students and doctors who wished to learn from him. He helped to cure thousands of patients and inspired many to go on and become ND’s themselves. His steady hand guided our profession for almost half a century. And now he’s gone.
Jim was also a loving and devoted father to 3 children and four grandchildren.
With boundless generosity, Dr. Sensenig devoted and invested his time, energy, money and talent to the good of the Naturopathic profession.
