It’s with an absolutely devastated and broken heart that we relay the news of Jerry’s death after a year of battling nasopharyngeal cancer. After remission back in April, he was doing well until his symptoms returned in August/September. Our tears flow for his life cut unfairly and terribly short, for Ke who’s absolutely broken over the passing of the love of her life despite her innate strength and resilience, and for his kids who will never again get the chance to be with and learn from this inspiring and amazing example of a man and friend. I thought perhaps we all can do our best to help out Ke and her two beautiful children with raising money for their family.
Jerry was Jerry til the very end. No matter how many times you ask him or in how many different ways, he always stated he was in no pain (at the most he held up three fingers). When his childhood friends visited him, he was able to mouth/whisper a wise crack answer to their question. When he was alert enough to drink, his family would have 8 different Taiwanese beverages (with crushed ice and stirred vigorously per his request) on his bedside tray and he would sample each before settling on what he would drink. He would do his best to finish the daily smoothie his mom would make for him because he knew how happy it would make her to see that he had drank it all.
He has inspired and touched so many of our lives. He was one of kindest, sweetest doctors that we have worked with. He was so caring, always smiling ,and such a pleasure to be around. He will be so missed.
