Dr. Jack McGowen accident info. We decided doing a GoFundMe page would be the best way to explain and update everyone about what happened to me.
On Monday, August 25th, I was having a normal day treating patients. I ate lunch with my parents and went to their house to look at some 9mm handguns. With the recent violence in Austin, I have been considering keeping one in my truck. After looking at them, I turned to look at a bag and leave. A family member was trying to break the last pistol down, and it accidentally discharged.
- The bullet went into my right hip, hit my pelvis (fractured it), ricocheted up behind my large intestine, nicked my small intestine, went through my liver, behind the right kidney, and behind my right rib cage. It is currently sitting in my right pecrotal muscle at T7. I was in ICU for 6 days with 3 surgeries. As of writing this (Sept 3rd), I am still in the hospital and possibly needing a 4th surgery.
- This is going to be an emotional and physical recovery for us. The estimate is 2 months and up to 3 months for horses.
I am very reluctant to use a platform. If you feel the need to help us, this is why we set up the GoFundMe. Anything donated will go towards our living and medical expenses. Honestly, the best thing all of you can do for me and my family is give me time. Time to heal. Time to recover. Then allow me to return to being you and your family members' chiropractor.
