Dr. Green's Stroke Recovery

Dear friends, supporters, and compassionate beings!

I write to you today with a heartfelt plea for support on behalf of my beloved partner, Dr. Koakane Green, a gentle chiropractor, fun-loving grandfather, and avid social justice advocate.

Our lives were abruptly altered on May 9th when Koakane, on a house call while treating a patient, suddenly lost the ability to speak any words. At the emergency room, Koakane, 77, learned that he had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, possibly had a mass in his left brain, and a UTI infection was circulating toxins throughout his body. We later learned that he has stage IV kidney disease which may require dialysis or a transplant.

With four new specialists on his health care team – a neurologist, a nephrologist, a speech therapist, and a physical therapist -- his two daughters, son, and I realize how costly his care will be. There are many unknowns at this point, but, due to high blood pressure, he cannot work for at least several months. Thus, he is in danger of being evicted if he cannot pay his rent.

He has successfully tackled many thorny issues in his 30 years of treating thousands of patients in his office at the Lotus Center in the Royal Kona Resort. He started doing treatments at people’s homes in the 90’s so that they wouldn’t have to drive home afterward. For at least 9 years he has been treating clients at the Captain Cook Sunday Green Market. People with back pain, neck tension, joint misalignment, and all kinds of pain and discomfort have found relief through his skillful hands. Now, he is tackling the greatest of all challenges: healing himself.

Because he is a gifted healer, he is anxious to return to work with his clients. But for now, he needs our care and support.

Beyond his role as a chiropractor, Koakane is also a highly respected friend to all, known for his dedication, integrity, and tireless advocacy for others. His sudden health battle has brought forth unexpected financial implications that add to the stress he faces.

Unable to work, with the uncertainty of upcoming medical expenses and living costs like food, gas, and upkeep rising, he faces a crisis.

In light of these circumstances, I humbly reach out to you, seeking your generous financial assistance. Your contributions, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference in Koakane’s recovery. Every dollar raised will directly assist him in dealing with the mounting expenses and provide essential support for his rent, good nutrition, alternative health care, possible travel expenses, and unforeseeable needs during this tough time.
