Hi, my name is Jayne, and as you may know, this story is about the death of a loved one, my dad, but that is not the epilogue of the story. Although death is the cessation of the biological functions of an organism, it is not the absolute end. Everything in the universe continues to exist in some form. You may be familiar with this law of physics: energy cannot be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be changed from one form to another. My dad was a man of science, and he did not know what happens to our conscious mind when we die; none of us can know for sure. But, he did know this law to be true. His energy still exists in this universe, and it always will. We don't know where his energy is or in what form it exists now, but we would like to think his energy stems from nature, particularly a tree. My dad embodied Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree". He was a sensitive and caring father, son, brother, husband, grandpa, friend, and physician. He was never happy unless others were happy. His compassion to see every person as a human being above all was the greatest lesson a parent could teach his children. My dad's commitment to supporting and accepting people for simply what they are made him truly a special soul. He never gave up on giving everything he had to others so that they could live better lives.
My siblings and I would like to donate a tree for our dad so that his energy may reverberate through the universe for decades, centuries, or even thousands of years! Our realistic goal is to raise $1,800 to donate this tree in his honor to the Cleveland Metroparks where he often took us as children to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of nature. Quarry Rock in the South Chagrin reservation seemed to be his favorite spot to take us to skip rocks and search for creek critters. Our idealistic goal (more of a wish) would also be to raise $10,000 to donate an engraved bench for our dad's family and friends, even strangers passing by, to have a place to sit in nature with his memory to heal from our grief and any other suffering we may face. Please consider donating to support us in our mission to not let Dave's death be the epilogue. We would love to see his story continue.
Rest in peace, Dave. 10/24/1954 - 9/11/2021
Thank you for reading. We encourage you to share our story!
