Jayla Rodriguez Medical Bills

Tax deductible
BGstrong Charities is fundraising for Jayla Rodriguez whom remains hospitalized at the CHOG in Augusta. This is to raise funds for her medical bills.

Below is a timeline of events from her mother, Janelle Bryant.

Prior to all of this , Jayla was a completely healthy 16 year old. She loved playing softball and flag football at her high school. She excelled in school, as a junior in high school she was in the National Honors Society , the Beta club. Maintaining straight A’s. She was fully vaccinated months prior.
Sept 13- Sore throat. Took her to urgent care , strep was negative. They gave her amoxicillin for possible infection.
Sept. 15- Started having a fever got up to 104.7 , took her back to urgent care. Tested negative for strep , mono and Covid.
Sept 16- Sore throat(most painful for her), fever, fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic. Took her to the hospital, they admitted her and started testing.
Sept. 17- told us they didn’t know what it was and wanted us to go to another hospital with bigger pediatric unit and more specialists. Transferred that evening , almost immediately they told us it was really bad and if we didn’t put her on lots of support this is going to start shutting her organs down and kill her. They did a central line, arterial line , breathing tube and ventilator right away. They put her in a medically induced coma.
Sept 22- They thought that had stabilized her enough, and attempted to extubate and bring her out of sedation. She did not respond well. They went back to full support. They started treating her for MIS-C.
Sept 29 - They were able to bring her out of all the life saving support, she responded well. She went to the regular pediatric unit.

Since then, she has been improving daily. She is still being treated for MIS-C ( I encourage every parent look this up!!! It’s very real) she was exposed to Covid 4-6 weeks prior to this onset , but showed no symptoms. It’s not common and is even more uncommon since she is vaccinated)

She is being weaned off many many harsh drugs that saved her life but it’s been a tough road. Methadone and Seroquel, caused her to have hallucinations. Delirium.

She is still unable to get up or stand. She is working hard with physical and occupational therapist and pushing herself hard. She wants to get up and go. However once we get out of the hospital when she is medically able , hopefully next week. We will have to go to inpatient physical therapy 2 hours away.

She is so thankful that God spared her life, she will be a walking talking testimony!!
