Caring for Carly
Donation protected
As a director of Little Friends of Grace at Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster Maryland for the past twelve years, I have seen many children learn and grow academically, socially and spiritually.
This past September a shy, reserved little girl came to our prek four-year old program. As the weeks went by Carly walked in a little more confident each morning, with a smile on her face. Around March she would walk in with this great big smile on her face and announce, “Good morning, Mrs. Erb!” She was always excited when she was the first one in the class. Her teachers and I were so happy to see how much she had grown this year.
Fast forward to Sunday, May 20th when I received an email from Carly’s grandmother with devastating news. Carly had been seriously injured in a lawn mowing accident and was taken to Johns Hopkins PICU; she would have part of her right leg amputated below the knee.
Carly has been surrounded by her family during this time and will have her skin graft surgery tomorrow. Once that is complete, she will have several weeks to rest and heal. In six to eight weeks she will be fitted for a prosthetic device and her real journey of healing can begin.
Carly is in pain but every day she shows more and more of that beautiful smile. With her dad, Craig’s blessing we have created this page to raise money toward Carly's current and future medical bills. We know that her expenses will far exceed our goal; however our hope is to relieve the initial financial impact so that the family can focus on Carly.
