Emergency Roof Replacement

Donation protected
Hi, my name is James and my wife is Abigail. We both moved to Missouri in 2021 to pursue jobs after Covid caused my job completely shut down. When we bought our house we were told the roof has a tiny bit of granule loss but that it should be good for 10 years. When I was taking Christmas lights down off of the roof I noticed multiple shingles sitting in the gutters. I tried to push them back in but I couldn't, so I took them out. That's when I found out that the entire back section of the house was completely waterlogged and soggy. I called our insurance company and they sent out an adjuster. Unfortunately, because of the age of the roof and the shingle used they will not cover any form of repair. This forced me to call a roofing company to get an idea of the damage and how much it would cost. We called three different roofers to make sure we were getting the best price possible and quality work. That's when I found out that the roof is likely the original roof and that most of the work was done wrong. There was no underlayment to protect the sub-roof (which should have been standard operating procedure), all of the vents were improperly installed which can cause rain to drain down into the attic, and the shingles used are TAMCO heritage which recently had a class action lawsuit due to the shingle wearing out near the 10-year mark versus the 30-year they stated, and no rain/ice shields were installed in the valleys ( they put tar down the valleys instead).

I'm told we are lucky that the roof hasn't collapsed and that it must be repaired this year. So here we are a year and a half after moving in and we're having to pay roughly $14,000.00 out of our pocket for mistakes that should have been caught long before now. Making this even more of a scare for us is that we're about to start getting spring weather which is known for heavy wind and rain, and we have no protection. So we're asking for help financially because we are completely maxed out. It's been one thing after another since we moved in. Most were small fixes but they add up quickly.

The roofers are a local father and son team who are known in the area for their integrity and quality of work. They're planning to fix the sub-roof, put down an underlayment to prevent water from getting to the sub-roof, place ice/rain guards in the valleys, putting a shingle on that's rated to last 30 years and replace the plastic turtle vents. The total cost is $14,000.00 and any funds we receive will go to paying for the roofers to come and fix the roof before the heavy spring rains come.
