It is with deep agony but trust in God that we announce David Paul Joseph Spates has gone to be with the Lord on Sept. 23, 2021 at 1:47 AM PT. He is now an ancestor and with our Father. He was 31 years old.

 

My mother and I were by his side and a circle of family members and close friends praying and supporting virtually.

 

Special thanks to UCLA’s Dr. Sarah Cragier and Dr. George Lin who fought all day and night to save my brothers life.

We appreciate all the prayers that have and continue to go forth. Unfortunately there was no plan for death at such a young age and we are doing everything in our power to celebrate David's life with a memorial service and are securing funds for my brothers service.

A Little About David

David Spates lost his father in middle school and he turned that pain into progress and became a star athlete in high school and was ranked number three in shot put and disc in the state of California. David was accepted into many universities on an athletic scholarship and chose to attend CSU Fullerton. David also played rugby, football and other sports. After injury and hardship David took a break from his education completing 3 years of his undergrad.

 

David received Christ at a young age at St. Stephens Church of God in Christ Baptist Church and loved God with all his heart.

 

David had a big heart, fed the homeless and volunteered at churches ministering to those with records, addictions and other life challenges. He helped to take care of his father when he lost his legs up until his death. David loved and cared for his mother dearly.

 

David loved the San Diego Chargers his whole life, Mexican food and all things San Diego.

 

David was born and raised in San Diego Ca. David leaves behind 1 mother, 6 sisters, 2 brothers, 3 aunts and two uncles.
