In 2011 CPS invaded our home in Harris county and unrightfully took my sister's and her husband's 2 children in the middle of the night while they were sleeping, stating they were in an immediate threat.
They were living with us at the time, and there was never a threat for these children. They were sincerely loved and cared for by both of their parents! Since then they have been fighting to get their children back and hired a lawyer to make sure they kept their parental rights. She then had a third child in Montgomery county and CPS tried to take him as well, but the court there saw no reason for the child to be removed from his parents.
Even though in Montgomery county they are seen as perfectly fine parents, Harris County CPS is still fighting hard to keep the other 2 children in their possession and in the foster care system. Mirjam and Ben (My sister and brother-in-law) exhausted all of their funds during the first year in lawyers and have been trying to fight CPS by representing themselves for the past few years.
Without a lawyer their side isn't able to be represented and CPS has been able to completely rule the hearings. They have complied with everything CPS has requested of them, but still haven't been able to move forward with the case. Just this last week they had a court hearing and the children were suppose to be released to a relatives care, and the hearing should have been merely a formality to release the children out of foster care. But suddenly CPS now claims the children have been is foster care so long they have grown too attached to the foster family, and instead of being released to a relative, stay with the foster family!
My sister and her husband (and the whole family) are utterly confused and disgusted by how CPS is operating. They are NOT trying to place the children back to their rightful parents, but are doing everything in their power to keep them away.
We are all getting depressed and my sister does not know what else they can do since they've done everything asked of them. They need a lawyer to fight their case and get their kids out of the system. The lawyer wants a $10,000 retainer fee and we need help raising the funds.
If you have any knowledge of how to fight CPS, or are willing to donate anything at all, to help us raise funds for legal help, we all would be eternally grateful! No parent should have to go through something like this, and CPS should not be allowed to dominate people like this when they are completely loving, capable, and wonderful parents! Help us bring those sweet babies back home!
