My name is Rachel. I was diagnosed with Stage 3C Colorectal Cancer June 17, 2021. After recently having a Radical Hysterectomy, a colon resection, cancer removed from my bladder and stomach, and having a colostomy place, my diagnosis then changed to Stage 4 Primary Peritoneal Cancer. Receiving this diagnosis, self employed and uninsured, my eyes were opened to the obstacles ahead when trying to have the finances and resources to get treatment immediately. I wasn’t educated on how the health care system worked. Being confronted with my own possible mortality made me think of all the others in my position who didn’t have access to funds to execute the beginning of their treatments. I’ve been fortunate enough to have amazing friends and family offer their love and support, emotional and monetary, throughout the process. On July 23, 2021, my prognosis got more severe and I was faced with the fact of having a very rare, aggressive and lethal cancer called High Grade Mullerian Adenocarcinoma. My diagnosis becoming more critical changed my entire treatment protocol and plan for how I am going to beat this disease. While learning more about what this meant for my future, I learned it was a cancer most aren’t aware of. Most, like me, haven’t heard of it until there are dire outcomes. My goal is to spread the word about this illness while making sure we have the funds to support the duration of my treatment plan and recovery process. I am so
