In early February 2020, 13 year old Maddie went to the doctor due to a very high fever that would not subside along with pneumonia type symptoms.
Madeline’s doctor, detected a mass in her abdomen and after scans concluded an extremely large mass in her kidney, she was rushed to, Toledo Children’s Hospital.
By early morning The family was told that Madeline needed immediate, intensive surgery to remove an aggressive growing encapsulated mass in her kidney before it ruptures...be prepared for Cancer.
But at the same time her heart and nervous system began to shut down. She was bleeding internally, loosing weight at a rapid pace and told the tumor was absorbing all her vital nutrients.
The family along with the doctors and specialist had to make a critical decision to postpone surgery while trying to combat her weakened immune system. A week later the surgery to remove the tumor along with the kidney took place, it was a long 4 hour surgery for Madeline. The surgeons removed the massive encapsulated malignant tumor measuring 10 inches x 16 inches, her kidney along with abnormal lymph nodes.
Madeline was diagnosed with a rare aggressive cancer called Translocation Renal Cell Carcinoma (or TRCC). Unfortunately this Cancer does not respond to treatment or chemotherapy and the only form of action is “aggressive removal.”
Madeline is currently at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital where they have a team of specialists that focus on TRCC.
Unfortunately due to covid 19 the Ronald McDonald House in Cincinnati cannot accommodate any families at this time. So the family is dealing with the expenses, while Maddie is treated at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
As the Cornell’s are very near and dear to us the Olman Family we consider them as part of the family...Christa (Cornell) has taken care of my Dad since my moms passing in 2007. I am attempting to raise funds to help offset any cost the unforeseen future brings during this drastic change in their lives.
