Update: Support Sheila's Battle Against Stage IV Melanoma
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
Firstly, on behalf of the Anderson family, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for joining us to fight Sheila’s cancer. The outpouring of support from her Gunnison community and contributions from all over the world - in donations, in helping signal boost the campaign online, and in prayers and well-wishing – has meant the world to us during a very dark time.
We also wanted to update you on the status of her treatment, and unfortunately, it’s a profoundly sad one. While we were ultimately able to get her TIL schedule back on track, with the first invasive surgery having been completed on May 21, the disease has continued to advance in the days since, leaving her with insurmountable obstacles to complete the next scheduled phase of the TIL procedure in July. Yesterday, Sheila made the courageous decision to end her treatment and enter hospice care, so that her remaining days can be spent at home in relative peace and surrounded by loved ones.
We are absolutely heartbroken to be losing our beloved Sheila. It’s hard not to be angry that her (and our) patience and perseverance over the past 16 months will ultimately not yield the many good years which should lie ahead with her, but we are doing our best to remain positive and enjoy the time we still have with her. With all of that said, we are bringing this fundraising campaign to a close. Please rest assured that the donations submitted will be used to pay for her outstanding medical expenses as well as to help her widower, Mike, as he settles their affairs and moves into the next stage of his life.
For anyone in or near Gunnison, Sheila is still happy to have visitors, and we’d love to see any of you who are able to make it. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has helped her, known her, and loved her.
With deepest gratitude,
The Andersons
