In Loving Memory of Eliana Laura Polycarpou

It is with great sadness with that we are having to write this, as you may or may not be aware the pregnancy was a tough one from around week 13 where Kelly was suffering from unexplained uterine bleeding throughout. On the morning of Wednesday 26th January 2022, Kelly’s waters broken at 26 weeks 1 day, we went to Lister Hospital and it was confirmed that there was no measurable water around the baby, she was transferred by emergency ambulance with a midwife with her to Royal London Hospital as they have a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in case Kelly went into labour naturally within 48 hours. She was observed throughly the day to ensure her and the baby remained healthy as with the waters broken meant they were both higher risk to infections.

She remained at Royal London for 4 days, sadly on Sunday 30th January 2022, Kelly started to feel poorly and was complaining of back pains, sickness and fever. Her bloods were taken and we continued our night in hospital. Around midnight (morning of 31st January 2022) - Kellys health declined and her “back pains” worsened - very quickly she deteriorated and the Doctors confirmed that Kelly had Sepsis and her white blood count had increased. This sadly, induced early labour on the morning of 31st January 2022.

Due to the sepsis, pregnancy and the fact kelly has recently had dinner, she was unable to have a spinal block injection in order to deliver by emergency c-section, therefore were left with no choice that she would need a general anaesthetic - which is not recommend for a patient with sepsis and pregnant - therefore we were advised the likelihood of Kelly passing away was relatively high. Additionally, we was also prepped that due to Eliana also having sepsis in the womb, if she were to survive delivery, she possibly would not survive after due to prematurity and sepsis.

Kelly was take to theatre for the emergency c-section, thankfully the consultant was able to turn Eliana for delivery and Kelly was able to deliver her naturally at 04:20am on 31st January 2022 - she was born asleep.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Team worked on Eliana for 27 minutes, sadly they were unable to save her.

Eliana, is our perfect little Angel, she has the most softest skin, smallest nose and filled us with love we didn’t even know we had to give.

Her little footsteps will always leave prints on our empty hearts.

Rest in Peace our perfect and beautiful daughter, Eliana Laura Polycarpou

Born asleep on 31st January 2022

We have started this fundraiser in order to raise money for some charities that helped/helping us through this tough journey.

As opposed to floral tributes, we want Eliana’s name and legacy to live on forever.
