Kasiah's Bone Marrow Tranplant

Donation protected
Everyday more and more families juggle demands of work, school, and family commitments. Unfortunately it is often the woman who bears the majority of all the responsibilities. My name is Jennifer Yancey and like a majority of other single parent households I bear the responsibility of providing for my family. However, my situation is slightly different.

I am a single mother of six wonderful, ambitious, crazy children. I have two sets of twins and two that are single births. This is where my story takes on an unusual twist. One of my oldest daughters, Kasiah, was born with Sickle Cell Anemia and later diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. My youngest daughter, Sylas, was born in May and upon welcoming her into the world the doctors and specialists just took my baby and began standard procedure. It was later they had told me my daughter was born with Down Syndrome.

It was unexpected, however it did not change the way I felt. I have always been a confident, loving and determined mother. I have dealt with doctors, specialists, and nurses for the last 9 years, you could say an ICU in the hospital was my home away from home. I have spent continues days, nights, and weeks there when my daughter, Kasiah, would be admitted because of her Sickle Cell.

I know many people are out there struggling to get by and have unfortunate situations. However, I was blessed to care for these amazing children and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. Caring for my children is a job in and of itself especially when two of my children have disabilities. It has made day to day life a bit more challenging. I have not been able to return to work since May when my daughter was born. I have had numerous appointments and just when I thought and understood everything about my daughters’ Sickle Cell Anemia and Diabetes, I had to learn everything I could about a new disability. This requires extreme patience and adjustments not only for me, but my children as well. My other four children they had to learn and understand the restrictions their two siblings will have for example, during playtime they cannot get to rambunctious and that their mommy needs to be in the hospital too often caring for their siblings.

My daughter, Kasiah, will be going through a bone marrow transplant in Atlanta, Georgia. The hospitals in New York are not taking any trials for her particular bone marrow transplant. Being unemployed has posed a major setback for my family. I do not have the funds to fly back and forth to Atlanta and my vehicle now does not fit our family comfortably. I would have to drive back and forth from Atlanta, Georgia to Medina, New York until I have the financial means to move my family to Atlanta, to be closer to my daughter’s facility doctors and treatment facility for her procedure.

If you choose to donate, please know that you are helping to keep Kasiah happy, healthy, and allowing her to spend and make many more memories with her family. If you cannot donate prayers are much needed as well to get my family through this difficult time. I greatly appreciate your generosity and so will my family.
