HELP BRAD BEAT CANCER

Donation protected
It’s amazing how fast your life can be turned completely upside down. At the beginning of November of 2019, my life-long friend, Brad Yates, was working full time as a truck driver for a local concrete company with no physical complaints other than the normal aches and pains of working a pretty physical job and getting older. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, planting a garden each year and enjoying sports and other outdoor activities with his wife and two children. Although he was approaching his 70th birthday within a few months, he seemed to be in remarkably good health for his age.

Fast forward less than three weeks and Brad’s life was completely transformed into a nightmare. By the middle of November of last year,  Brad was in the hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee with a diagnosis of colon cancer which was determined to be inoperable at the time because of the size and location of a mass found in his colon. His doctors began immediately with chemotherapy in an attempt to reduce the size of the mass and kill the cancer cells. The treatments initially appeared to be successful; however, the cancer cells became more resistant and returned with a vengeance. Different and more powerful drugs were then required with more severe side effects and reactions.

During the initial chemotherapy treatments, Brad insisted on returning to work on a part time basis at the concrete company and had a very supportive employer who accommodated his schedule by letting him work only when he felt like doing so. As the treatment regimen got more intensive, Brad finally realized that he was not then physically able to work at all. Up until this point, Brad’s wife, Teresa, had been able to continue to work at least part time in her job as a rural U.S. postal carrier; however, at this point she had to take a leave of absence since she was the primary caregiver for Brad.

Brad and Teresa have during this entire time lived and continue to live in their home in  Dutton, Alabama with their 13 year old daughter, Lilly and their 12 year old son, Will. With both Brad and Teresa out of work, they have exhausted their savings with no additional sources of income available. Although they have reached a point where they are in desperate need of financial help, their selfless nature prevents them from asking for help on their own. Brad and Teresa have always been the ones reaching out to help others in need and have never before experienced this type of need for themselves.

We have finally convinced Brad and Teresa to let us try to take some of the financial pressure off of them so that they can devote themselves entirely to getting Brad healthy again.  We appeal to you to help the Yates family and if you are able to help, your donation in any amount will be most appreciated and forever remembered. All money collected will be used exclusively on meeting Brad’s medical expenses and needs and the essential expenses of maintaining the Yates’ household while Brad and Teresa are unable to work.

During the current economic climate we understand that many of you have been adversely affected and may be unable to help financially at this time. We would ask that even if you are currently unable to make a donation, that you keep Brad, his family and his medical providers in your prayers and we would also appreciate your forwarding this request on to other family and friends so we might get the Yates family the help they so desperately need.
