Downingtown Disaster Adopt a family
Hi my name is Kelly. I live in Downingtown Pennsylvania. I've lived here for over 3 years and I absolutely love it.. I feel so connected to my community and neighbors. Downingtown has been though a lot over the past year or so.. With the unfortunate events that unfolded Wednesday, 9/1/21 there's been some very tragic events leaving many families with next to nothing. With Flash flooding from hurricane Ida, The street that I used to live on was flooded, so badly, almost everyone I've spoken to said it's the worst they've ever seen. Pictures don't do what this storm did to our community ANY justice. Thinking and wondering,, what can I do, I saw a post on a Downingtown community FB page that people were starting to "adopt" a family from Mary St. (Or others affected so badly) that are in desperate need f help.. Families that lost their belongings, sanity, trust, faith and many personal items that aren't replaceable. I have decided to "adopt" Tezrin Alyssa and her family. She posted a video on the same community website of the first video of "her back yard during the storms". It hit me hard, made some space in my heart to step up and try and help this family any way I can.
A little background.. Tez and her family just moved here. She has a 2 children, a 2 year old son and a 7 year old daughter. They chose Mary St. to plant their seeds while raising their children.. Zoned in a great school district, with their elementary school within walking distance, they weren't even fully moved in before 9/1/21. Noone told them how the fields behind them flood. It gets so bad that Beaver Creek creeps up to their back doorstep. This time, the rising river destroyed their basement. Residents on Mary Street lost a lot. They lost cars, basements, storage sheds, even 1st floors of their condos in some areas were affected. Some houses are ranch style and were hit hard. Adopting this family, I don't even know, by trying to help them in anyway I can- offering a place to stay, gifting things around the house we can donate to replace lost and damaged items, and like I decided, a Go fund me page to try and raise the necessary funds to re-build and start over. Imagine the financial stress this would have on you! I want to take them dinner and help them clean up. I don't have the funds to be able to replace everything the need, but I have faith that anyone reading this will do what they can to help this family. This has destroyed Tez's home, NEW home and many of their belongings they haven't unpacked, their children's playroom that was their basement. They lost clothes, thus, bikes, holiday decorations, work clothes, books, dads, a TV, computer, furniture....the list goes on.... The one thing they still have is each other. They are ready to pick up and start rebuilding. Will you please help them?? The rest of the pictures paint their day as it unfolded. It's time for them to start building back up! If there is ANYTHING you are willing to donate, Tezrin and her family would appreciate it so much and put every dime into the costs to repair their home. Unfortunately, we all know floods and hurricanes are considered an "Act of God" therefore typically insurance doesn't help much.
Thank you for considering. Please take a look at my adopted family, I don't even know, and please help them rebuild!
