Kelly's Feral Cat Project

Donation protected
My name is Kelly and I am a pet sitter in Grapevine, TX. On February 28, 2017 I started a project to Trap, Neuter, and Release (TNR) the colony of feral cats living in my neighborhood. Over the course of two months I was able to trap and vet 9 of 14 cats, as well as foster and adopt out five kittens. I would like to return now a year later to monitor and TNR as many more as I can.

I have already started the ID process and it is clear that more cats have moved into the area or had kittens since I was last there. I estimate that there are between 7-10 that need to be fixed and one is clearly in need of medical attention.

The first time around I was supported by my very generous neighbors as this is not a cheap endeavor. Coming back to the colony and finding the amount still needing to be done is daunting and I cannot rely on my own pocket and the nearby houses to provide the funds that will be required. Any amount you would like to donate would be very much appreciated and would go to creating a happy and healthy colony. Any money left over from Dove Pond would be used for other feral cat TNR projects.

Donation details: Every cat that is trapped is spayed/neutered, has its left ear tipped, and receives vaccines for rabies, FeLV, and FVRCP and a pain injection. They are then brought to a kennel in my garage to recuperate for a few days before being released again. Going off my experience last year the entire cost per healthy cat falls between $30-$70. Antibiotics is an additional $15 and will be purchased for any cat with visible cuts or scratches.

Last year this process was complicated by a litter of kittens whose care from birth to adoption was in the region of $600. I am hoping this doesn't happen again, but I do know one of our cats has a recent serious injury, possibly from a fight. I have not seen it in person yet, but I would like to have the funds available to properly care for him when I am able to trap him. I do not know how much this might be but will post more details when I can.

Some of the donations would also go to maintaining supplies of food, litter, towels, and blankets. I would also like to purchase a new wildlife camera (about $50-70, used for the picture below) as the one I used last year is becoming unreliable. It is an integral part of monitoring and identifying the cats needing to be trapped.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any donation, large or small, will be greatly appreciated!
