Our dear friends Jon and Kristen Douthit, along with their 3 children are in the beginning of a fight against cancer. You can read Jon and Kristen's own words regarding Jon's diagnosis, and updates on their journey here.
Over the next 20 weeks or so, Jon will have treatment that involves 5-6 days of inpatient chemotherapy followed by 15 days of at-home recovery. This will repeat (at least) 6 times. His immune system will be severely compromised. His energy will be very low. Kristen will be caring for him and their 3 kids (the oldest of which is almost 5 years old). Jon's prognosis is good and we are all thankful to God for that provision.
That being said, getting through these next 20 weeks (4.5/5months) will be difficult (understatement). In response to many of you asking how you can help the family through this time I've set up this GoFundMe account. This (initial) set dollar amount represents the estimated cost of biweekly house cleaning, monthly car cleaning, daily parking for inpatient weeks, and food money for inpatient weeks for the duration of Jon's treatment plan.
The house cleaning and car detailing are specifically geared toward keeping Jon healthy. His immune system will be so compromised that if he were to have a fever of even just 100.4 he would need to go to the ER. Having 3 children under the age of 5 will make this particularly difficult. Our hope is to provide regular deep cleaning of their home and car to help keep germs at bay for the whole family.
The parking and food money are for when Jon is in the hospital and Kristen is visiting daily. Though these seem minor, the amount of instances these charges will hit make the total a bit more significant.
Kristen and Jon have struggled with whether or not to let me create this campaign for them. They have been overwhelmed (in a good way) by the generosity of so so so many of you. You have been meeting their needs and exceeding their expectations in spades. They are so very thankful for each of you and the way you have supported them.
This campaign is meant to provide a concrete way for people, especially those who have asked what they can do, to give their support to Kristen and Jon. What they use this money for may shift as their treatment goes on. There will be substantial medical bills, and there may be other unknown financial needs. Kristen and Jon are confident that God will provide for what they need during this time. If you want to participate, but giving money is not an option for you, please feel free to join us all in praying that these needs are met as God sees fit.
