Doulas in Solidarty: Black Doula Scholarship Fund

Donation protected
I am a mother. I am a doula. I am working for change.

Black women and their infants are 3-4 times more likely to die from pregnancy and childbirth related complications. Systemic racism runs deep in our healthcare system. For black pregnant mothers and their babies, this results in a lack of adequate prenatal and postpartum care, higher levels of stress hormones, and black women are less likely to be taken seriously with pain levels during labor and postpartum period...to name a few.

This must change.

Birth Doulas provide support through physical comfort measures, providing information, and advocacy. Put another way, continuous labor support from a doula lowers stress levels, increases comfort and amplifies the birthing woman's voice,  thereby IMPROVING BIRTH OUTCOMES. Evidence-based research has concluded that doula support is highly effective, risk free, and should be considered a basic need for birthing people.

More black birthing mothers need / deserve continuous labor support.

As a community, we need to support black birth workers - doulas, midwives, labor and delivery nurses, lactation consultants - to improve the prenatal, birth and postpartum experiences and outcomes for black mothers.

Help me support black mothers and babies by supporting black birth workers.

This is my part of the solution. My short-term goal is to sponsor the training for 2 doulas (one birth doula and one postpartum doula) in Colorado, where I am currently practicing, and 2 doulas in Minneapolis, where I grew up and received my doula training...to start.
*Any additional funds raised will go to support more black birth workers in attending training or in their current work.

Birth is incredibly transformative; the birthing or rebirthing a mother and the birth of another soul into this world. Women and their partners forever remember their birthing stories,  their trauma and their joys. Let's work together to ensure the JOY is amplified.

Black women deserve birth support by black doulas.

Let's make that happen.
