Family, friends, community, late this last December 2024, Doug Vickerman, after battling what he thought was bronchitis that would not heal, had a Chest CT.
NOT Bronchitis. A mass in his lung.
On January 13, 2025, after testing, Doug and his wife, Krissy, were given the news: not only one mass, but two CANCEROUS masses in Doug’s right lung lobe with inflammation to the surrounding lymph nodes.
Doug was scheduled to begin radiation treatment. However, following a PET Scan on January 21, 2025, it was discovered that cancer had already spread to Doug’s lymph nodes and adrenal gland. Doug’s cancer is stage 4. Because of the cancer’s advanced stage, the oncologist informed Doug and Krissy that they could not wait for radiation therapy and needed to start Doug on an aggressive chemotherapy of six cycles over the next 144 days. Which Doug began on February 12, 2025. Each cycle will be more difficult than the last.
Battling cancer is hard. It is also extremely expensive. As the chemo works to kill the cancerous cells, it will also break down Doug’s good cells, weakening his immune system. As treatment progresses, Doug’s ability to work will be limited. Krissy will also have to take time off to care for and support Doug.
We can’t help Doug battle his cancer. We can pray for his healing and emotional support for Doug, Krissy, and their family. And we can pull together a love offering to help support their family financially, for medical bills, medication, mortgage, utilities, and groceries.
Doug and Krissy have raised thousands of dollars over the years for cancer research through Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training, TEAM 209, and The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Manteca. The research LLS has done has helped patients beat cancer, including in my own family. The American Cancer Society supports patients through the battle.
Now, the Vickerman family are the ones in need. Join with us to share with the Vickerman family our love, prayers, and financial support.
Thank you.
