Doug Varcoe's Fight With Cancer
Donation protected
On July 16th, after 8 months of dealing with worsening left abdominal and hip pain, my brother in law Doug went to the ER in Maple Ridge. Here, him and his wife Nicole would have their world turn upside down. They would be given the news no one wants to hear: it was cancer. Thankfully, things moved fast and they received the official diagnosis on July 29th after multiple tests and scans. It was Ewing Osteosarcoma. We all knew Doug is special and only he could be diagnosed with a rare cancer, usually seen in kids. Guess that means he's still young at heart!
Unfortunately, since that initial diagnosis, Doug has been unable to work due to the pain. Now with treatment starting this week that will include multiple rounds of chemotherapy, requiring week-long hospital admissions, then surgery, followed by another round of radiation and chemotherapy, Doug, and his family, are looking at a very hard year. With Doug's inability to work and Nicole needing to take the occasional time off to care for him, they are looking at a tough financial future.
I am starting this GoFundMe for them in order to help provide a cushion to help ease the strain that they are already feeling and allow them to focus on fighting this cancer and healing.
