May 28, 2018 - Doug has passed away. The cancer demon spread beyond medical treatment containment. I saw and believe the struggle was long and hard fought. I’m confident Doug gave his best and came close to battling back from the pancreatic cancer. Regrettably the cancer spread elsewhere; the end was mercifully swift. I’m reaching out again to ask for any support you can provide to Brucie and The Ingram Family. I’m sure any GoFundMe assistance would provide a great deal of support for medical and end of life expenses. Any contribution you can provide is deeply appreciated. Thanks So Much. GregG
Like most Americans, I’m reluctant to ask for help, especially financial help. It’s like admitting that I’m no financial genius, which is definitely the case for me. My name is Doug, and I have pancreatic cancer...AGAIN! I’m married to Brucie, now in our 28th year of marriage with three awesome children now ages 23, 21 & 19. This family has been very blessed and very fortunate for the people that we have met both here in Reno & in Seattle, and continue to be friends with today. Without a doubt, we would not be the family we are today without the influence of many, many people in our lives for three decades.
Background: In 2015 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Pancreatic cancer. Once the surgery was complete, the doctors indicated that I was cancer free, a surgery that was deemed successful. Unfortunately, I experienced a number of complications after the surgery, and was put on life support for three months. Due to my complications, the folks in the ICU unit did not give me much of a chance to survive, but thanks to their dedication, and dozens of people praying for me on my behalf, certainly ensured that I would survive in spite of some very ardent odds. I was also blessed to have dozens of people visiting me while I was in the hospital, including Greg Gahner, a good friend of mine that I have known for over 15 years, and is putting together this GO FUND ME effort on my behalf. Visits also included folks from Apex, family members and friends from both Reno and Seattle.
Today: Before Christmas I was again experiencing some pain so I sought out medical attention. After several tests, it was determined that the Pancreatic cancer had returned. I’ll survive this time too with all of the family and friends that continue to cheer and support myself and my family with encouraging words, companionship, love and a positive outlook.
Finances Then: Our first round of medical bills was well over $1 million dollars, most of which was covered by our catastrophic medical coverage, or by financial assistance from Renown. It had been a very tough year for us: We had sold a number of personal items including my car, as well as cashing in our 401k and with me back to work again on a part-time basis, we were able to hold things together financially pretty well in 2016.
Finances Now: With the latest diagnosis, and the impact it has had on my ability to work with regularity, we have pursued a number of options available for government assistance programs and financial assistance from Renown. We have already been denied government financial assistance. As I have found out recently, both chemo and radiation treatments are very expensive.
Thanks to my company Apex Performance Solutions, I’m able to work on a part-time basis from home on an “as needed” basis, not to exceed 10 hours per week. Our health insurance is now under COBRA and only covers myself and two of our children, and runs over $800 per month; we cannot let our COBRA insurance to lapse due to how expensive my cancer treatments will be. I pursued, and now receive Social Security Disability.
My wife Brucie is working multiple jobs now and is helping to keep us in our home. This is tough on all of us – We don’t want to be a financial burden on anyone, and appreciate all of the help we have received from family and friends over this past year. However, with the latest diagnosis we have reached the point where we have no choice but to ask for help, hence the reason for this GO FUND ME page. With the help from my friend Greg who has put this page together, all I needed to do was write this missive to request financial assistance from our friends and family.
The funds for the GO FUND ME campaign will be applied to our monthly mortgage, monthly COBRA Insurance payments, medications not covered by insurance, organic dietary items as needed for a new diet for cancer, previous and current medical bills and life insurance.
