Help for Doug Moe's Medical Expenses

Our Story

My name is Demi Moe, I am Doug Moe's wife. Here is a little bit of insight as to where we are now. In Sept. 2007. Doug was riding his Harley, only 2 miles from his house and the unthinkable happened.....He was hit by a drunk driver, with no insurance and this was the drivers 4th DUI. Which the driver didn't serve any time for what he did to my husband. How did this happen??

Doug lost his lower right leg, had 22 surgery's. He is an amputee, but can get around better than men with 2 good legs. Because of his old injuries in 2007 and having to walk with a prosthetic his back has multi levels of degeneration. Doug has several bulging spinal disks and a pinched nerves. He is in exruciting pain. On Friday Jan. 6, 2017, I had to take him to the Urgent Care, because he was complaining of his right shoulder, right arm and hand hurting. He couldn't even turn his head to look to the right.

Things just went down hill from here. We have been to the E.R. twice, specialists, primary doctors, chiropractors, you name it, we have done it. He can't seem to get any relief. He has been bed bound since Jan. 6, 2017. Which isn't like my husband. He is a go getter, a strong hard working man, being lazy isn't in his vocabulary.  

As most of you already know, we had a medical campagin set up for my husband, Doug Moe, and rasied $2750, but we took it down, because we were embarrassed of what happened to us on Mon. Jan. 23, 2017.

The Laser Spine Instiute in King of Prussia, PA. promised us this new inavasive surgrey that would have Doug up and walking within an hour after surgrey. It was all a lie, a big con!!  We were so mortified and emabrrassed, because so many of our friends and family had contributed to this particular spinal surgery and all of the medical expenses that went along with it. On Tues. Jan. 17th., we got a phone call from Jamie Dicolo, an intake spine consultant, for the Laser Spine Institue. She said that they reviewed his MRI and that he was a candidate, (we thought our prayers were answered) and she also told us that we had great insurance. This should of been the 1st red flag.  We thought this was going to fix his back.

We flew Doug's oldest daughter, Sydney, up here within 2 days of the the news to help us with her little brothers. We have no family here, so we are just so grateful that she dropped everything to come help. We want to be totally honest with everyone, we are good people that got taken for a ride. On Jan. 22, 2017 we arrived at a hotel in King of Prussia with excitement, thinking this is it. Doug's back will be fixed and he will be up and walking again. On Mon. Jan. 23, 2017 we got to the Laser Spine Institute at 10:30 to do all diagnostic testing before surgery on the 26th. We were there for 6 hours, before even seeing a doctor.

Finally a so called doctor came in and told us that Doug wasn't a canidate for the surgery. WHAT!?!?! What do you mean?? He said, we'll there isn't a surgeon here that would do the surgery. Doug and I kept asking direct questions, that he couldn't answer. This is what is called insurance fraud. These people knew that they weren't going to do the surgery, before we even got to the istitute. They had us there all day long, just to be able to charge our insurance company. We have spent out of pocket, with specialists, chiroprator visits, doctor visits, medication, ER visits, MRI's, blood work, xrays, not to mention the costs of flying Sydney up here and to top it all off, there will be more bills from the hospitals coming in every day and here is the BIGGEST expense......Doug will have to be fitted for a new prosthetic leg. They cost around $30,000.

Our plan now: We are seeing Dr. Tuffaha, a well known, reptuable, neurosurgeon, today at Susquehanna Health, in Williamsport, PA.
