Doug Maughan is a 1st year Structural Ironworker Apprentice who has recently experienced a setback that will keep him off work until the New Year.
To make matters harder, Doug is also newly engaged, and he and his fiancée are working hard to build a future together. This should be an exciting time in their lives, but the financial pressure of missing work has added stress where there shouldn’t be any.
Doug is currently unable to return to work and will be recovering over the next several weeks. This means:
• No income during the busiest and most expensive time of the year
• Lost hours and missed overtime
• Extra financial strain during a major life milestone
• Difficulty keeping up with bills, groceries, and basic living costs
On top of this, Doug is already enrolled to attend apprenticeship school in the spring, which comes with its own expenses. Being off work now makes saving and preparing for school that much harder.
This GoFundMe is to help Doug cover:
• Rent / housing costs
• Groceries and daily essentials
• Transportation and living expenses
• Medical or recovery-related costs
• Holiday support for him and his fiancée
• Financial breathing room before he attends school in the spring
The goal is to ease the pressure so Doug can focus on recovery, stay on track for school, and continue building the life he and his fiancée are working toward.
Doug shows up every day ready to learn, work, and support his crew. He’s respectful, reliable, and driven — exactly what you want in a first-year apprentice.
He’s trying to do everything right: build his career, build a family, and build a future. This setback wasn’t planned, and it hit at the worst possible time. Helping him now is what we do when one of our own needs the support.
Any amount — even a few dollars — makes a real difference. Sharing the fundraiser also helps get the word out.
Let’s come together and help Doug and his fiancée get through the holidays, stay afloat while he recovers, and head into the New Year — and into apprenticeship school — on solid ground.
