My name is Kristina and I'm trying to raise money to provide a memorial service for douglas mau and to help his wife mary mau through this tough time.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share our dear Doug Mau left this earthly realm to join Jesus. Born January 23, 1958, Doug lived a life that touched the lives of many others. This wonderful kind man fought a lengthy battle with Diabetes which took his eyesight, while maintaining his humor and grace. Unexpectedly, he went to a checkup for being short of breath and having some complications in July. What we thought was a regular follow up ended up as him being rushed to sunrise hospital for his ekg being abnormal, his diabetes and kidneys. Doug ended up going home a few days later only to end up back at UMC where they started dialysis for his kidney failure. Little did we know on the onset of this first round of dialysis it would ignite a long rocky battle going forward. Dougs heart stopped 4 times at UMC in the following days and doctors called a priest in to pray they didnt think he would make it. Well he showed them wrong and made it through only to have internal bleeding and needing blood transfusions. They finally got the bleeding to stop and he was sent to a rehabilitation center for one night. Only to be sent back to sunrise hospital for low heart rate, where they inserted a pace maker and he made it through surgery stronger than ever. He was on his way to recovery finally, so we thought. Once again they discharged Doug back to the rehabilitation home to help build his strength again. He was doing good talking laughing and than he was sent back to sunrise for a third time do to nausea and vomiting multiple times. Drs said he was internally bleeding again and needed more blood. They did imaging they noticed a mass on left side ans i was told that it should go away on its own. They decided to discharge him without any real answers on what happended and send him back home. Where we had to tell the dr no he couldnt just be released home, when he has been in the hospital for 6 weeks and not walking. He needed to go to rehabilitation to his strength back up. Two days later sunrise took him to dialysis and states he became unresponsive during this time, this was August 25, 2023, he earned his wings. Heaven gained an angel, and we, his friends and family lost a beautiful soul.

Friends of Doug and Mary have started this fundraiser to raise funds for these unexpected funeral expenses and to help provide a small cushion for his wife, Mary who has been left with bills funeral cost, loss of a husband and finances. Shes devastated and deeply misses her husband and friend. Please help us cover these costs so Mary is able to honor Doug with a beautiful service.

The shares from his family and friends that follow are just a few of many memories with Doug. He made a lifelong impact on so many, and while his loss leaves a deep and pain-filled void, it is our hope these stories make you smile in remembrance of your own Dougie-Fresh (as Mary/Maria his wife & friend affectionately called him) story and thank you in advance for helping to provide a beautiful service for a treasured and very missed soul.

From Mary/Maria – 1988 was the year she met Doug. The friendship quickly blossomed and he became a profoundly loved member of her family. Doug’s devotion as a father-figure to her daughter, Kristian, and a steady rock for Mary, cemented him as a permanent fixture in their lives. Mary remembers the sadness and gap in their lives left by Doug when he moved to Las Vegas to care for his parents. Mary and Kristian both maintained steady contact and around 6 years ago, Diabetes robbed Doug of his sight. Mary went to visit, took one look at her dear friend and committed to remaining by his side and caring for him with the same love and devotion he showed her and Kristian years ago in Hawaii. Doug wasn’t done with being Mary’s Knight in Shining Armor though. Soon after she arrived, Doug told her he wanted her to always be taken care of and he asked her to marry him. Mary happily became Mrs. Mary Mau and to spend her days with the man that loved to affectionately push her buttons at the same time chuckling together under their breath while enjoying his favorite meal of Chinese takeout while they kicked back in the recliner and watched a movie. Always a gentleman, forever a loved and loyal best friend...35 years simply was not enough time.

From Kristian: Uncle Doug all her life since she was about a year and a half old, officially became her step-father but he always maintained a place in her heart that was special as the best father-figure a girl could ask for. She remembers so many wonderful memories….way too numerous to name here. She remembers when he would pick her and her cousin up every Saturday to take them ice skating at the Ice Palace and how much fun they had. Doug was always there…. Taking her to & from school, his attentiveness to her day and mood was a priceless gift to Krissy. He always had a tin of candies ready to lift her spirits if she just had a really bummer day at school and was bullied or wasn’t feeling well. Uncle Doug knew just how to make her smile. He made her birthdays extra special, always calling on her birthday without fail..and there was always a birthday gift on the seat for her when he’d pick her up from school. Doug’s love of electronics carried over to a young and impressionable Krissy who keenly learned so much from him about electronics, science and technology and he is why to this day, she’s able to put together a massive sound system without blinking an eye. The confidence he helped instill in her encouraged her to grow her mind and develop the intellect that fills her beautiful mind today. The void Doug left is deep and it seems like it will take an infinity to ease the pain and to turn the hearbreak into smiles of rembrance for the man that was larger than life and had a love and kindness that outshined the sun.

With much Aloha and Love, friends of Doug & Mary Mau.
Thank you everyone! Everything helps
