In Memory of Douglas Henderson

Our hearts are broken to share that Doug left us suddenly after a slip on the stairs. Those who knew him loved his warm heart and enthusiasm for all life, from plants to people, with a particular fascination and love of mushrooms. He shared his knowledge widely, taking groups of locals out shrooming.
Doug was a humanitarian and naturalist and over the years dedicated his life to international development, community engagement, and more recently to his patients at the long term care facility at the Wakefield Hospital.
In honour of his memory and to celebrate the warm and generous person he was, we plan to donate funds to causes that will reflect Doug's passions and values.
Doug volunteered for and supported Sentier Wakefield Trails, a not-for-profit organization aimed at promoting trail creation, maintenance and associated activities in Wakefield and La Pêche.
La Maison des Collines aims to provide palliative care and high-quality support to end-of-life patients and their families through the prevention and control of disabling physical symptoms while offering, in an environment of calm, peace and quiet, spiritual, psychological and emotional support that terminally ill patients need.
All of Doug's family thank you for all your kind words, your shared memories and your support and generosity through this ordeal.
