It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my Father, Douglas Charles Williams, 69 (04/14/1951 - 03/18/2021). He passed away on Thursday March 18, 2021 at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He suffered from a stroke on Tuesday March 9th and was rushed to MedStar Southern Hospital Center via an ambulance. Once the severity of the stoke was realized by doctors at Southern Maryland Hospital he was flown to Georgetown University Hospital for immediate brain/neurological surgery.
The surgery was initially declared a success by the surgeon as my Dad was able to open his eyes, look around and breathe on his own. Unfortunately a few days later he suffered another major stroke and had to go back on the breathing tube. He then had pneumonia, a fever, his kidneys began to fail and the swelling in his brain significantly worsened. With all these complications and his other health conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, heart failure, etc.,) the doctors stated that my Dad recovering was impossible and recommended that we initiate comfort care.
My family and I were there with him to say our goodbyes at the hospital and he was given his Last Rites by a Catholic priest. My wife and I were with my Dad the whole time while nures removed his breathing tube and I held his hand when he went to Heaven.
He leaves behind his wife, Lamai, his daughter, Diana, his son (me) Richard and his wife Joana, his two grandsons, Avery and Preston and a third grandchild due to be born in June 2021.
