Douglas Kauffman Support

Hello, my name is Heather, Doug's wife. I would like to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your donations and kind words. Our family's journey began about a year ago. Doug had a mole on his back that had gotten to look odd. I told him that he should get it looked at. Within days he was at the doctors and they sent the biopsy away to be tested. The result was  melanoma. It took us a while to process. We had high hopes that he would have surgery and they would remove all of it and we would go about our life. This was not the outcome. He had immunotherapy infusions, radiation, and several other treatments. The cancer started to spread. He had lost control of his left side near the end. The cancer spread to his skull and was spreading fast. He was in the hospital for 4 days in which no one was allowed to see him. He came home for about 2 days and went back for gammaknife radiation. The cancer is located in his brain at this point. The gamma did not help and we are now putting a 3-6 month timeline on his life. That very quickly became weeks. He had ended up in the hospitral once again. One person a day could visit him this time. The one thing he wanted was to be home. I got him home ASAP and he was with us for a week and a day before he passed. He would tell anyone that he could that he was at peace with his diagnoses. This warmed my heart. He was one amazing man and all of you are amazing people for offering your support. We have 7 beautiful children. All of this happened so fast and we did't get to prepare them as much as we liked, but they are coping very well. God has blessed me with Doug and our family. He has blessed us with the help of all of you. Thank you.
