Hi everyone. On March 10, 2021, I took my 3-year-old baby boy to the vet for a routine kennel cough vaccination. While I was there, I asked them if they could take a look at a small bump on the back of his leg that I noticed a couple of weeks prior. At the end of his appointment, they told me they believed the bump might be a cell mast tumor. So I scheduled a fine needle aspiration for the next day where they confirmed this bump on his leg to be a cell mast tumor, and they don't know the severity of it until a procedure is done to have it removed. After getting a second opinion from another local vet, they told me they didn't feel comfortable with the size and location of it to remove it and they recommended me to a specialist. So today (March 16, 2021), I took him to the VCA Capital Area Veterinary Specialists in Austin, TX where they also confirmed this bump to be a cell mast tumor that will require surgery and depending on the grade of the tumor, maybe even radiation or chemotherapy. But they won't know the severity until they surgically remove it and have it tested.
VCA Capital Area Veterinary doesn't provide any form of payment plans. So I must pay in full when the procedure takes place. They gave me an estimate of about $4500 for the staging (physical examination to see if the cancer has spread) and the removal procedure. I'm currently a full-time student at Texas State University, but luckily I have a supportive family willing to help, but even their help won't cover all the costs. Any donations at all would mean the world to me in this stressful time. And even if you can't donate, please just share this link. This has been a terrible time for me and my pug and we could really use any help we can get. Thank you for the support.
