My Dad (Doug Rupp) survived a heart attack Wednesday (10/9/19) morning and was life-flighted to St. V’s in Toledo. The next morning Dad underwent an immediate quadruple bypass surgery. The surgery went really well, but he is now in a lot of pain and has a long road of recovery ahead of him.
My parents would never EVER ask for this. In fact, I’m concerned what they’d do if they knew we were doing this on their behalf. However, knowing full well the hidden costs involved with unplanned traumatic events in one’s life...I know my parents are going to feel the pinch (and already have). Thankfully they do have insurance, but many things like a dramatic cut to Dad’s “expected” income, uncommon meal expenses, travel expenses (gas, tolls, etc), and more...anything we can gather to help soften the blow would be humbling to them (no doubt), but could be a simple way to come around them in their time of need. My parents are very independent and aren’t prone to ask for help...but that doesn’t mean they don’t/won’t need it (For Example: Where Mom is staying costs $50 a night...she’s looking at about $350 for a projected 7 night stay). Please consider giving something ($5, $20, you decide). And if money isn’t your style, maybe a gift card, a ride to a doctor’s appointment, etc would be great!
So, we thought we’d start here and see where this goes. I’d like to ask one last thing. Whether you want to give something through this route, or not, would you at least consider sharing this with others. I know my parents have had an impact beyond those we (her kids) have even met. Perhaps someone else would also like to bless them in this way as well. Thank you in advance for your friendship to my parents and your generosity. Truly.
I’m going to conclude with this story I captured a few years ago. I think it’s an exact depiction of my parent’s generous and loving heart:
December 19, 2011
During lunch yesterday I overheard my Dad quietly/anonymously paying for a table of police officer's lunch...and when asking my mom for any cash she didn't have any because she gave it all away to someone yesterday for Christmas.
Thanks again everyone!
