My name is Doug Massey, and I’m running to serve as the next President of the National VA Council (NVAC).
For over a decade, I’ve been proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with AFGE members—fighting to protect our rights, improve working conditions, and ensure that VA employees can continue serving Veterans with dignity and fairness.
I am deeply honored to be endorsed by longtime NVAC President Alma Lee, whose courageous leadership built the most powerful bargaining council in AFGE. Her support is both humbling and inspiring, and I am committed to carrying her legacy of power, protection, and progress forward.
Proven Leadership at AFGE Local 17
As President of AFGE Local 17, I helped transform our Local into one of the strongest in the country. Together, we:
- Grew membership from 650 to over 1,700.
- Won landmark arbitration cases that restored jobs and awarded employees back pay.
- Secured telework protections for hundreds of workers.
- Challenged unfair executive orders—and won.
- Mobilized thousands of letters to Congress in grassroots campaigns.
- Built award-winning communications tools—podcasts, websites, training programs, and digital campaigns that empowered members nationwide.
The Fight Ahead
Now, our union faces the greatest challenge in its history. A recent executive order has stripped collective bargaining rights from nearly all VA employees. Our contracts are void, our rights suspended, and our ability to defend employees is under attack.
But this is not the time to retreat—it’s the time to fight back.
With my experience as both an attorney and a longtime AFGE leader, I am uniquely prepared to:
- Lead the legal battle in the courts.
- Lobby Congress for legislative change.
- Keep NVAC strong and solvent until our rights are restored.
My Vision
This campaign is about building a future where every Local has the tools, training, and support to win fights at the workplace level.
When Locals are elevated, NVAC is elevated. When NVAC is elevated, all of AFGE is elevated.
Why Your Support Matters
Running a national campaign takes resources—travel, outreach, materials, and communication.
That’s why I’m asking for your help. Every contribution you make will go directly toward ensuring this campaign reaches every delegate and that our message of strength, solidarity, and progress is heard loud and clear.
Your donation is more than financial support—it’s an investment in:
- The future of AFGE.
- The rights of VA employees.
- The mission of serving America’s Veterans.
