Doug Larson Medical Expense Fundraiser

Doug Larson and his family can use your help. This summer, instead of working at his demanding construction business, he has been fighting cancer. In case you don’t know Doug, he is 53, a hard-working husband and father, an Eagle Scout, and active in the community. Besides all that, he is an honest, helpful, all-around good guy.
In May, Doug’s recurring back and hip pain intensified; in June three trips to the emergency room diagnosed a sciatic nerve issue. However, Doug’s condition worsened and he was taken by ambulance to an emergency room where multiple symptoms pointed to something more serious than a sciatic nerve problem. A CT scan led to an appointment at Marshfield Clinic in Eau Claire where a hip biopsy diagnosed stage 4 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Following the diagnosis, doctors ordered chemotherapy treatments; by the end of September, Doug has had three treatments which seem to be shrinking the tumor. At least three more treatments are scheduled. It’s likely that Doug will always require a lower leg brace and be dependent upon a cane or more to compensate for the permanent loss of hip muscle.
After years of working extremely hard at developing and running his business, Doug has spent this summer enduring pain, pneumonia, several hospital stays (that added up to 35 days), chemotherapy and its side effects. As you can imagine, the combination of not being able to work and the extra medical costs not covered by insurance has put a strain on the family’s finances. Therefore, we as friends of the family have set a goal of raising $10,000 and hope that you can help.
