On the evening of August 2, we learned of the passing of Doug Laford. While we remember him for his witty expressions, his easy smile, generosity, and fun-loving spirit, we also know like so many of us, he struggled with mental health.
Doug was always up to volunteer around town, and in his honor, we'd like to raise money for the non-profit organization NAMI-Austin (National Alliance on Mental Illness https://www.namiaustin.org/)
NAMI is the largest grassroots organization dedicated to building better lives for millions of Americans affected by mental illness. They offer no-cost classes and support group programs for people affected by mental illness and their loved ones as well as education and training for schools, workplaces, faith communities and neighborhoods. NAMI Austin is a vital resource for individuals and families when they need a place to turn.
We'd like to raise at least $1000 in Doug's name, which will pay for a 3-day intensive training for 10 new teachers for NAMI's Signature classes, Family-to-Family, Peer-to- Peer or Basics.
