Hello, my name is Jo Alabaster, daughter of Douglas Knott.
Dad passed away suddenly but peacefully early on the 3rd of January. I've been very touched by the condolences and kind words offered, both from friends we had in common, and folks I've not met who remember him well.
As the (unexpected) executor of his estate, I'm in the position of putting his affairs in order and organising a memorial service - challenging in the best of circumstances, but moreso as I live in New South Wales.
I am trying to honour him and give his friends and family a place to gather and remember him by arranging a modest funeral service. Honestly, I'm struggling to fund it, as the cost exceeds funds left in a trust. Like Dad, I'm also on a disability pension, and have two dependent children. Friends have strongly advised me to ask for help - I really wish that I didn't have to, but I'd advise them to do the same were our situations reversed.
I've set a target of $2000, as that is the amount I'll be paying upfront this week. If this is exceeded, and with your blessing, I would like to purchase a container to hold Dad's ashes. If it's exceeded by a sizeable amount, and also with your blessing, I would consider purchasing a ticket back to Perth, so that I can attend the funeral service in person and be with friends and family.
Please read this knowing that I hold no expectations, nor do I want anybody to be generous beyond their means. Your condolences, good wishes, and care are appreciated more than I can express, and they honour Dad's memory.
I'll update with details of the funeral as I have them.
Thank you.
