Doug Connell's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Friends and fellow followers of Christ, we have an opportunity to support the Connell family during Doug’s cancer battle.
Hi, my name is Sarah Dees. I first met Jessica through her blog Making Home in 2009, and we became internet friends and then real-life friends, especially after they returned to live in Texas. Over the years, Doug and Jessica have reminded me of 1 Corinthians 11:1 which says, “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.” I have watched them face significant trials with strength, grace, and an unrelenting trust in our Lord. Throughout several moves and changes in life circumstances, they have remained steadfast, faithful to Christ, and always involved in the local church.
And now the Connells find themselves walking through a new trial. As many of you know already, Doug was diagnosed with testicular cancer in March 2024 and has already endured surgery. His upcoming treatment will involve scans, appointments, and 9 weeks of chemo.
These particular chemo drugs, while likely to be effective, will also cause substantial side-effects including nausea, fatigue, vomiting, anemia, risk of fevers and infections, and risk of lung damage.
If you’ve navigated a serious medical issue with a family member or friend, you know that cancer is expensive. There will be parking fees, extra gas, medications, and meals out. While caring for a spouse, it’s also difficult to do some of the ordinary things that save money, like shop for sales or make things from scratch. Also, life for the rest of the family does not stop just because someone has cancer. There will be other expenses that arise that will be difficult to cover during this time.
Here are specific ways that monetary contributions will be used:
• Covering Doug’s $3,150 deductible
• Necessary vitamin supplements during chemo - $400 - $600/month
• Gas and parking fees
• Convenience meals when needed
• Christian counseling services
At this time, Doug’s income has not been affected. We will update if that changes.
As you’re able, let’s support the Connell family during Doug’s treatment and recovery!
