Doug Candre’s fight !!

Donation protected
I am reaching out to all my Facebook family and friends for prayers and donations, if possible. As some of you already know my brother-in-law Doug Candre was diagnosed with rare cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma in 2017. He went through Hell and back in the early diagnosis. He beat the odds and survived the treatment of eight weeks of chemotherapy and then 18 more weeks of concurrent chemo and radiation. He was in remission until 2019 when his cancer returned. He underwent surgical resection and more chemotherapy. Again, he was in remission and was doing wonderfully until October 2022. He had his routine imaging tests, and the results were what he had been praying he'd never seen again, the return of his cancer. This time it showed up in two areas. It had returned in the initial area, as well as in the neck surrounding his carotid artery. He had only one option and that was a very aggressive surgery that less than a handful of surgeons in the country have ever done. His surgeon had only done it twice. On January 20, 2023, Doug underwent a grueling 16-hour surgery, only to be told they were not able to get all the cancer. Doug is still in the hospital fighting to heal. Doug had a double pulmonary embolism the day after surgery. He is fighting many infections, including pneumonia. The doctors said they will treat his cancer with more radiation and chemotherapy when he heals from the surgery. Doug was already administered the full dose of radiation the human body can take back in 2017/18 and suffered some necrosis of the brain. To undergo more radiation would mean more necrosis of the brain, which Doug has decided he is not willing to risk since the radiation therapy did not work the first time, and there is no guarantee it will work this time. The only words the doctor said were, “Radiation therapy is your only chance of survival if the surgery does not work.” Well, surgery did not work, and radiation therapy did not work the first time. With that, my sister Maribeth started to research another avenue. She was not going to accept this as the only option, and if any of you know my sister, you know that she leaves no stone unturned and will go down 1000 rabbit holes to get answers. In her research, she has come across a doctor in Texas that treats cancers without radiation, the Burzynski Clinic. She contacted the clinic and at their request, she sent them pathology reports, imaging/imaging reports, lab results, and operative reports for their review. She waited, holding her breath hoping they could help him and would take his case. She received the email that Dr. Burzynski looked at his medical records and can put him on a treatment plan. Unfortunately, the treatments required to try to save Doug’s life are not covered by his insurance and are very expensive. We are trying to raise the funds for Doug’s treatment. To be completely transparent, I would like to share the financial breakdown. We are trying to raise enough funds to cover the $1,250.00 for the consultation, $17,000.00 for monthly case management, $4,000.00 for the New Body Guard Single Channel Pump, and $15,000-$35,000.00 for personalized targeted therapy. Additionally, there have been and still are a lot of controversies (over 20 years) with Dr. Burzynski's method. If you are interested in learning more about this clinic, watch this video. I know it is lengthy, but it sums up the 20+ years of back-and-forth battles Dr. Burzynski has endured.

If you can donate any amount, it would be a tremendous help towards trying to save a good man’s life and giving back a son to his mother and father, a husband to his wife, a father to his children, and a grandfather to his one-year-old granddaughter. Thank you for taking the time to read about Doug's plight and if you are in a situation where you cannot donate funds but would like to help, we ask that you please lift Doug and his family in prayer.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts ❤️
