Our father, Doug Borre, is an amazing husband, father of 3 children, and grandpa to 6 grandchildren. Until May 2021, he was a healthy guy who loved biking, skiing, camping, and spending time with family and friends. He spent many years volunteering with Ski Patrol at Granite Peak in Wausau heading up refresher classes each year. Over the years he has mentored several young adults both professionally and personally. He has always been willing to help others in need.
In May 2021, Dad came home from work, pulled in the driveway, parked the car, and had a massive seizure. When the seizure stopped he was unresponsive. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance where he was admitted and spent nearly three days undergoing numerous tests that showed nothing of concern. Dad was discharged with a diagnosis of Lymes Disease. They knew a tick had bitten him approximately 5 days prior to his seizure. Lymes Disease is known to cause seizures along with many other abnormal signs and symptoms, so this diagnosis made sense to us at the time. He has little to no memory of what happened during his time in the hospital.
Fast forward two months … Dad became increasingly confused, daily tasks became a challenge, and nothing was “normal”. Out of concern, he was taken to the ER to try to find answers. More tests and scans were done at this time and physicians discovered a lesion in his brain. As a result, he was transferred to UW Health Hospital in Madison. Dad’s confusion worsened over the next week as more testing was completed at UW. With no identifiable cause of this lesion, a biopsy of the lesion on his brain was advised.
On July 22, 2021 life was turned upside down. Dad was diagnosed with Grade IV (most serious) Astrocytoma, more commonly known as Grade IV Glioblastoma, which is non-operable. Since Dad’s diagnosis, he has been transferred back to Wausau. He is undergoing inpatient therapy, radiation, and chemotherapy. While these treatments won't cure him, but they will help to stabilize his condition. We are doing whatever is needed to get him as strong and as fit as possible so that he is equipped to fight and win this battle!!
Why do we need your help?
Our parents have always put others first. They are quick to help a friend in need, giving in every way they can. To watch them go through this makes us feel completely helpless. We want to help ease some of the financial stress they are dealing with so they can focus on Dad's health and the incredible battle he is fighting. Mom has been by Dad's side every step of the way and will continue to do so. At this time, Dad is not able to work and Mom has also taken unexpected time off work in order to provide around-the-clock care when he returns home. Insurance only covers so much, and he has already spent almost a month in the hospital. There are so many unknowns in this fight and we would like to do everything possible to allow Mom to be there for Dad. The funds raised here will go toward helping our parents with their loss of income, medical bills, therapies, medical equipment, living, and travel expenses.
