Doucette's Elite Dreams Lead to Texas and Beyond
Melissa Doucette is a New Hampshire gymnast, with dreams that just won't end. At a time in her career when most gymnasts are hanging up their grips, after competing 4 years in college, 24 year-old Melissa can't let go of the dream of continuing on towards her ultimate goal of becoming an elite gymnast - the highest level a competitive gymnast can attain. While initially setting her sights on performing with Cirque de Soleil when she was done competing, a national team coach who had worked with her, encouraged her to continue on, and try the elite route. Beyond that, lies the possibility of reaching one more gymnastics pinnacle - a chance to train with the best gymnasts and coaches in the country, at the epitomy of gymnastics training centers..."The Ranch", of Bela and Marta Karolyi fame, in Houston! Melissa has made the commitment to work towards these goals, dedicating this year to training as many hours as possible, while at the same time, working as a coach for younger gymnasts at Gymnastics at Brentwood Commons, to not only support herself, but to pass on the passion for the sport she loves. She recently competed in a prestigious national invitational meet in Texas, hosted by former Olympian, Kim Zmeskal, where she placed second in the All Around, against many of the top Level 10 gymnasts from around the country. While there, Kim Zmeskal offered Melissa the opportunity to go back down to Texas to train with her team, which includes several national team members, for a week. Melissa is already scheduled to head back down to Texas for her next big meet, on February 14th, where she will be aiming to score high enough to qualify her as an elite level gymnast, moving her one step closer towards her goals. As one would expect, supporting herself as a recent college graduate, along with training and traveling expenses, finances have become a bit of a strain. We have set up this Go Fund Me site, in hopes of easing some of this financial strain, by helping with some of her expenses, and supporting her, as she sees how far this journey takes her!
