It is extremely hard to share this because of how private our family is - but at this time we are asking for your help. Our mom MyAshah (Mya) was diagnosed with Stage 4 Sarcoidosis, a disease that has unfortunately effected her lungs. She is currently listed to receive a double lung transplant because she cannot breathe on her own without a maximum level of oxygen, due to the disease destroying her lungs.
Along with unexpected and uncovered medical expenses, post surgery care giving and expensive monthly bills with no income coming in it has become a financial hardship for my mom and our family. We appreciate and are beyond thankful for any and all help from are family and friends near and far. If you have the time please read my moms story below.
Those of you who know our mom know how fun, active, and life loving she is. Whether it was going to the gym at 5 in the morning before work, hanging out with her girls, or just simply spending her free time with her family, which was her favorite thing to do. This disease has taken that life away from her, and put all of our lives on hold. It has even caused her to miss out on major life events including my college graduation. It breaks our hearts that our mom, at only 46 years old cannot live the life that she is destined to live.
She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Sarcoidosis which has caused scarring and permanent damage to her lungs, making her completely dependent on the use of an oxygen machine 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It started with a cough that would not go away, then led to shortness of breath, and then this past fall during a trip to the apple orchard she wasn’t able to even walk. We had to push her around in a wheel chair and even while using a portable oxygen tank she still could not find the strength to breathe or even stand up on her own.
After determining how severe the scarring was on her lungs, the doctors decided that the best decision was for her to be listed for a lung transplant. She then went through extensive testing and was officially listed. It has been a year of waiting for a donor, and everyday her condition worsens. She is currently in the ICU at New York Presbyterian Hospital receiving care and awaiting the call for a transplant.
This call can happen at any moment and we are just so excited and ready to see our mom get back to living her best life!
Being that she is dependent on an oxygen machine 24/7 prior to transplant, our electricity bill has increased tremedously on top of hospital fees, medications, medical co pays, medical equipment, part time nurses, and transportation to appointments that her medical insurance will not cover … and it has become an extremely overwhelming amount of expenses for our family. We are asking you to help our family with these costs, so that our mom can return home to a normal, stress-free life after her transplant.
