For the past 6 years, Jeff has been battling a rare genetic disease called "Short Telomere Syndrome" that cripples the organs of the body. The disease has progressed and has caused several critical conditions - severe IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) of the lungs, severe Cirrhosis of the liver and Systolic Heart Failure. These conditions required Jeff to be recently placed on the transplant list at the Cleveland Clinic for a double lung and liver transplant.
A benefit was being planned for Jeff next month (May 2024) to assist Brenda and Jeff in covering expenses associated with the complicated procedure including medical costs and medications not covered under insurance and living expenses for the recovery period as the Cleveland Clinic is more than 6 hours from Jeff and Brenda's home in Central NY.
Amazingly, after just a short time on the donor list, a donor match was identified this past Sunday and so Jeff and Brenda rushed to Cleveland for surgery. The surgery, lasting more than 20 hours, has been completed and it is now a waiting game as the doctors evaluate the success of the surgery and the function of his new lungs and liver.
Full recovery time is estimated to be at least 6 months and both Jeff and Brenda need to stay in the Cleveland Clinic area for monitoring and appointments. They still need to cover living expenses near Cleveland for the entire duration of that stay and transplant medication costs that will not be covered by insurance. During this time, Brenda will be unable to work at her job in Central NY.
Any financial assistance you can provide Jeff and Brenda would be incredibly appreciated. Their journey has been long, and their road ahead is difficult, but your support as they move forward would make a big impact and would be very meaningful for them. Jeff is a son, brother, husband, father and grandfather who is looking to continue his fight and be in the lives of those he loves for as long as he can.
THANK YOU!
