Double amputee Mark Schultz learning to walk again
Donation protected
Double amputee Mark Schultz of Lark Photo & Framing is learning to walk on his own again for the second time.
Mark broke his right leg in the growth plate at the age of five, the fracture was not diagnosed and was never set resulting in over 7 subsequent breaks by the age of 10. At the age of 27 after years of hospitalizations, therapy, additional breaks & complications it was decided that the leg had to be amputated. After intense therapy and determination on Mark’s part he regained the ability to walk again with the aid of a prosthetic leg.
Mark and his wife Lucy worked hard over the years and made a life for themselves in Plant City where they eventually opened a photo & framing business. Lark Photo & Framing has been servicing the community for 16+ years. They have always been active in the community & donated their time and expertise to individuals, local artists & small businesses.
In 2019 Mark began having medical issues and it was determined that he would need a kidney transplant. He is currently on daily dialysis and is working on the long process of getting on the transplant list. During this process a wound on his left foot became seriously infected. After multiple procedures to battle the infection, it had spread into the bone despite doctor’s efforts. In August of 2021 he had to have his remaining leg amputated.
The last few years have been difficult for the Schultz’s with Mark working sporadically and then eventually unable to work for the last year. Lucy has kept the business open as much as possible while attending to Marks medical needs and numerous hospital stays and doctor’s appointments. With the business being their main source of income and the necessary reduction of hours and days open, finances have been depleted. Mark is currently in a wheelchair & their home needs to be made handicap accessible. They are working towards getting two new prosthetic legs for Mark, so he can regain his mobility and walk on his own again. While Mark’s strength is returning and he has recovered well from the amputation, his journey is still not done. The process for medical clearance needed to be placed on the transplant list expired while he was dealing with the amputation and now, he must start that process over. The medical bills are compounding, and more are to come.
Mark and Lucy are some of the kindest and most giving people we know. It breaks our hearts and at the same time gives us hope and strength to see them dealing with such tremendous obstacles. Your help and donation would be such a much-needed relief to them, and they would be forever grateful. We thank you in advance for your generous donations, no matter how big or small, all are appreciated.
God Bless You.
